My Two-Cups-Before-Noon Routine, Reworked: A Black Cherry Creatine Morning Blend

It's 9:40 on a Tuesday and I've already drafted three recipes, answered a supplier email, and watered the basil that refuses to thrive on my office windowsill. This is usually the hour I'd be reaching for cup number two of coffee. I've been a two-cups-before-noon person for twenty years — that's not changing — but somewhere in the last few months, that second cup stopped feeling mandatory. The reason is sitting torn-open next to my keyboard right now: an empty Black Cherry stick pack.

I develop recipes for a living, which means I'm professionally suspicious of anything that promises to "transform" your morning. Most things don't. But I've been folding Creatine Prime+ into my actual daily blend long enough to have an honest opinion, and I want to give you the recipe I keep going back to — plus the why behind it.

What's actually in the stick pack (and why those two things)

Two ingredients. That's it. Creatine Monohydrate and Rhodiola, in the form of RhodioPrime 6x. I like a short ingredient list the way I like a short recipe — fewer places to hide.

Creatine is the one most people know from the gym, but the part that matters for a busy morning is quieter than that. Creatine replenishes ATP, your cells' rapid energy currency. Your brain is metabolically demanding, so topping up brain creatine gives neurons a larger energy buffer for things like memory and attention — and that buffer becomes more relevant as natural creatine levels and brain energy decline with age. That's the throughline in the systematic reviews Creatine and Cognition in Aging and Effects of creatine supplementation on memory in healthy individuals. For me, the practical version is just: my mind feels a little less foggy by mid-morning.

It's also the most extensively studied form of creatine and well tolerated long-term — that's the conclusion of the International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand on creatine. And because it works by keeping your phosphocreatine topped up rather than by stimulating you, there's no caffeine in it, no jitters, no crash. That distinction matters to me. I want my coffee to be a choice, not a rescue.

Then there's the rhodiola. Rhodiola is an adaptogen — its actives, rosavins and salidroside, help modulate the stress response. In demanding, fatiguing conditions it's been shown to improve concentration, short-term memory, and speed of perception while reducing the feeling of mental fatigue. That's the finding from the night-duty physicians study using the SHR-5 extract and the systematic review Rhodiola rosea for physical and mental fatigue. In plainer terms: it's the ingredient that, in theory, helps a busy Tuesday feel a little more manageable.

"I just feel steadier and more focused lately." — one of our reviews, and honestly the phrase I'd have written myself.

Who I think actually feels it

I'll be honest about the caveat first: creatine is a buffer, not a buzz. If you're expecting a pre-workout slap to the face, this isn't that. What it seems to do is steady things. A couple of patterns from our reviews line up with what the research suggests:

  • Strength that holds up. Creatine increases the muscle's phosphocreatine pool, letting cells regenerate ATP faster during effort. Paired with everyday movement or resistance training, that's been tied to greater gains in strength and lean tissue — which matters most for offsetting the muscle loss that accelerates for women with age (per the meta-analyses on creatine and resistance training in older females).
  • Clarity through hormonal shifts. Peri- and post-menopause are linked to lower brain energy and that familiar "brain fog." Supplemental creatine raises frontal-lobe creatine, supporting faster reaction time and steadier mood during that transition — the focus of the CONCRET-MENOPAUSE randomized trial and the review Creatine in women's health.
  • Resilience on the demanding days. Rhodiola helps the body adapt to physical and psychological stress; trials in people with stress-related burnout and chronic fatigue reported clear improvement in perceived stress and exhaustion (the open-label fatigue trial and the review on anxiety, stress, and cognition).

One reviewer put it about as well as anyone could: "Feels like my body handles busy days a little better." I don't think it's a coincidence those phrases keep showing up.

The recipe: my Black Cherry Morning Blend

Here's the actual thing I make, tested in my own kitchen more times than I can count. The Black Cherry flavor does a lot of the work — it reads like real fruit, not candy. One reviewer said it's "easy to drink and not overly sweet," which is exactly the brief I'd give if I were formulating it myself. The single-serve stick packs mean no measuring and no chalky drift across the counter. "No mess, no measuring, which I appreciate" — agreed.

This makes one tall glass (about 16 oz). Each stick pack delivers the standard 5-gram serving of creatine, so one drink is one dose.

Ingredients

  • 1 single-serve stick pack Creatine Prime+ (Black Cherry)
  • 10 oz cold water or unsweetened coconut water
  • 4 oz tart cherry juice (100%, not from concentrate if you can find it)
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 tsp fresh lime juice
  • 2–3 fresh or frozen dark cherries, for garnish (optional, but pretty)
  • A sprig of mint (optional)

Steps

  1. Pour the 10 oz of cold water (or coconut water) into a tall glass or shaker.
  2. Tear open the stick pack and add the full serving. Stir or shake for 10–15 seconds — it mixes in fast and clear, no clumping. "This mixes instantly and tastes better than I expected" is not marketing; it's the part that won me over.
  3. Add the tart cherry juice and the teaspoon of lime. Stir.
  4. Fill with ice to the top.
  5. Drop in the cherries and mint, and drink it within a few minutes while it's cold and the ice hasn't watered it down.

A few notes from testing: the tart cherry juice isn't just for flavor — it leans into the recovery angle and deepens the color so it actually looks like something you'd want at your desk. If you're watching sugar, swap the cherry juice for an extra 4 oz of water and a splash more lime; you lose a little richness but it's still genuinely good. And if you're a coffee person like me, this plays fine alongside it. I usually have the blend first and let the coffee be the slower, optional second act.

Warm-day variation: the Black Cherry Frozen

On hot afternoons I blend instead of stir. Same stick pack, 6 oz cold water, 4 oz tart cherry juice, 1½ cups ice, and a small handful of frozen cherries. Blend 20–30 seconds until slushy. Pour into a chilled glass. It's the closest thing to a guilt-free dessert that still counts as my daily dose.

How I actually fit it into a day

Consistency matters more than timing with creatine — it works by saturating your stores over days and weeks, not by spiking. So I just attach it to a habit I already have: the morning desk sit-down. Stick pack, glass, done. The convenience is the whole point. As one reviewer said, "The stick packs are super convenient," and that simple fact is the difference between a routine I keep and one I abandon by Thursday.

Is it dramatic? No. I'd be lying if I said I felt lightning. What I'll stand behind is closer to another customer's words: "It's been a small but real help for me." My recovery feels a touch smoother after I move, my mind feels a bit clearer through the long stretch from 9 to noon, and I reach for that second coffee a little less often. For two ingredients in a stick pack, I'll take it.

If you've already got Creatine Prime+ in your drawer, try the recipe this week and give it a couple of weeks of consistency before you judge. If you're still deciding, that's fair — go in expecting steady, not spectacular, and let the day-to-day tell you the truth.
